# Changelog

## v3.1 · September 2026 (first public draft)

- **Fact-check pass.** Every claim about a real organization, event, date or study was checked. Each one is now stated exactly as its source supports, softened to what the evidence carries, or cut. Every chapter lists its sources.
- **Corrections.** Among them: "The purpose of a system is what it does" is nine words, not five. The boat-racing reward-hacking agent beat human scores by about 20%, not threefold. The robotic-grasping case fooled human raters, not a camera. A Byzantine fault is a component that tells different parts of a system different things. The cancer sequence in Chapter 6 has no fixed order.
- **Fewer, smaller examples.** The worked audit in Chapter 8 keeps only the most widely documented facts, from one official report; the framework's reading of them carries the chapter. One retailer appears unnamed. Examples that turned on contested politics were replaced with apolitical ones (an open-source dependency, a quiet online forum, a traffic jam).
- **Dropped:** the promise of live, dated predictions in Chapter 10, and the sections on "post-truth".
- **Kept on purpose:** every coined term, including the ones that collide with other usage.

## v3.0 · July 2026 (internal)

- The metaphysics and the less defensible claims of the original philosophy were removed. What remained was rebuilt as a diagnostic framework: every concept defined operationally, with a test, an exclusion case and the strongest objection answered.
